Game of Thrones merchandise coming to India

Rejoice, India: soon your 1.2 billion citizens will be able to buy locally licensed and developed Game of Thrones merchandise through Mumbai-based firm Black White Orange Brands (no relation to the Assassin’s Guild hall). After working for over a year to close the deal with HBO, Black White Orange CEO Bhavik Vora is hoping that the merchandise will bring in between $35 and $40 million in sales during the first two years of the exclusive deal. And unlike otherGame of Thrones-related distribution deals, this one will allow the company to develop its own set of products, as opposed to distributing previously existing merchandise sold in other countries. Vora appeared especially enthused when discussing the deal with The Economic Times.
This is a huge achievement for us. Game of Thrones fans get transported into the world of Westeros when watching the show and are eager to extend that experience into their everyday lives.
Founded less than a year ago, Black White Orange Brands has been on a bit of winning streak for such a young company, recently winning the international distribution rights for NBCUniversal’s consumer products division. The Game of Thrones deal will last for three years and is structured as a revenue sharing agreement, meaning that HBO (and parent Time Warner Inc.) will share in the profits. With the second largest population of any country on the planet, HBO should see significant revenue from the sale of apparel, actions figures, drink-ware, and other collectibles.
As Game of Thrones heads into the home stretch of the series, with only two seasons remaining, it has never been more popular. Ratings for Season 6 were the best of the series thus far, and rumors of a potential spin-off series never seem to die. And even with the series ending, there will likely remain a large demand of related merchandise well into the future.
